Foodies can always use another cookbook or food magazine subscription, of course. But did you know there are now Wii games for people who like to cook?
Cooking Mama
First, there’s two Wii versions of Cooking Mama for Nintendo DS - Cooking Mama: Cook Off
and Cooking Mama World Kitchen
. (There are also two more DS versions - Cooking Mama 2: Dinner With Friends
and Cooking Mama 3: Shop & Chop
.) Cooking Mama: Cook Off
retails for $19.99 and is currently being sold at Amazon for $17.33. How could I resist a game that’s called “cooking mama” when I run a blog called This Mama Cooks?
Cook or Be Cooked
I haven’t had a chance to play Cooking Mama: Cook Off yet, even though it looks like a lot of fun. That’s because I’m keeping it stashed away so I can give it to my kids as a Christmas gift since they LOVED Food Network: Cook or be Cooked
for Wii.
Food Network: Cook or be Cooked is designed to teach players real, practical cooking skills using their Wii remote and nunchuk. The game comes with more than 30 recipes that were developed by the expert chefs of the Food Network Kitchens. It has the players go through an authentic authentic food experience from prep to plate.
Some of the activities the game has players perform are cracking eggs and making grilled cheese. (My kids had a knack for burning their pancakes and bacon.) You can play Food Network: Cook or be Cooked by yourself or against another player, up to four players. Or you can have a competitive split-screen cook-off with two players.
After cooking, players encounter Food Network’s Vice President of Marketing and The Next Food Network Star judge, Susie Fogelson, and Food Network Kitchens chef Mory Thomas along the way for tips, feedback and reviews. They’re pretty harsh critics, so watch out. (My kids love it when the judges hate something and make “yuch” faces.)
Friends and family can cook all recipes side-by-side in cooperative Hot Potato mode for up to four players, or have a competitive split-screen cook-off with two players. Food Network: Cook or be Cooked is rated “E” for everyone. It retails for $39.99 and is currently selling for $36.99 at Amazon. For more information on the game, check out the Cook or Be Cooked website.
