I read in the Denver Post this morning that General Mills announced that it will reduce the sugar content of the 10 cereals it markets to children under 12 to single grams of sugar per serving levels.
The cereals affected are Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs, Cocoa Puffs Combos, Reese's Puffs, Cookie Crisp, Cookie Crisp Sprinkles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Frosted Cheerios, Trix, and Honey Nut Cheerios. You can read the press release, General Mills to Reduce Sugar in Cereals for more information.
General Mills has already reduced sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.
For more information go to the cerealbenefits.com website to see how General Mills will be lowering the sugar content in their cereals. You can also view which General Mills cereals already have single digit sugar levels. (Did you know that Fiber One has 0g of sugar? I didn’t.)
General Mills is also offering a $1 off coupon for one of four General Mills cereals. According to BrandWeek, “General Mills expects the new versions of the cereals to be on shelves in the spring.” So you may want to wait to use your coupon until then.
