It’s been over a month since I received my Frigidaire Gallery Freestanding Electric Range. I’m still getting used to my new appliance, but for the most part I love cooking with it.
Taking less time to cook
Frigidaire has a More Me-Time Guarantee that states that moms will save time with their products. You know what would save me time? Not having to cook or clean up afterwards at all. Maybe Frigidaire can send Rick Bayless and his staff over.
But seriously, I finally do understand how my new cook top saves me time. It cooks things fast. Almost too fast. I’m not used to how quickly a pan will heat up on my new stove. Several times I would turn around from chopping veggies to find a pan smoking. Whoops, there goes the smoke detector! On my old stove the pan wouldn’t have been warm enough to start cooking yet.
So while the learning curve of my new Frigidaire Gallery Freestanding Electric Range has actually cost me more time, in the long run, pans will be ready sooner and food will cook quicker and with less heat. I’m cooking more efficiently, too, since I can change the heating area size to fit my pan.,
However, I’ve almost burnt a few things, too, not realizing how well my new stove top heats up my cookware. My Le Creuset cast iron French ovens and pans get especially hot, so I’ve learned to turn the temperature down and keep a stricter eye on my cooking.
Taking less time to reheat food or keep them warm
I’m not very good at having all the dishes ready at the same time. Often I have to keep several things warm while other things are still cooking. The Frigidaire Gallery Freestanding Electric Range makes this easy with its Keep Warm Zone. It’s a spot between the two back burners that only gets hot enough to keep a pan or oven safe plate warm.
This comes in handy when my husband or I get an important call during a meal. We can place our plate on the zone to keep our food warm until we get back to the table. I also use this for keeping scrambled eggs warm since a low setting would turn them into rubber. (I make scrambled egg wraps and use half of what I make at one time. By the time I make the second wrap, the eggs are cold. Blech.)
Yes, I use the oven to keep things warm too, but having an extra place to do this, especially when something is cooking in the oven, is terrific. It saves me time if I don’t have to zap something in the microwave that’s gone cold on the stove top or counter.
Taking less time to clean
Frankly, I wanted a ceramic top range just because I hated how dirty my old electric stove got. During boil overs or when cooking, food and spills would get under the burners. Eventually, the caked on, baked on food was impossible to clean off properly.
The plates under the burners were a mess and I couldn’t find replacements that properly fit. Also, spills and grease would pool underneath the burner plates, and start growing mold. I’d turn on the burner and wonder what that god awful smell was and then realize that I was growing a science experiment in my stove top. Nasty!
My Frigidaire Gallery Freestanding Electric Range is very easy to clean. If anything is burnt on, I gently sponge or scrape it off after the cook top has cooled. I use a spray on glass strength cleaner most of the time, but if it’s too greasy, I use something stronger and use the polish and nylon scrub pad afterwards. There’s no hidden areas where spills and food collects, so clean up is easy, quick and efficient.
